Moses’s Encounter With Heavenly Father Helps Us Learn

From the experience of Moses, in the Pearl of Great Price, we learn that Moses saw Heavenly Father; I saw eight ways God interacted with Moses, which can also be applied to us (See Moses chapter 1).

#1 – Moses knows that he is not perfect, but yet he sees God the Father. God doesn’t expect our perfection before he is willing to teach us and give us more light. God accepts us as we are, but also tries to improve us.

#2 – As the Father speaks to Moses, we learn that we are children of God. A father/daughter relationship is personal and intimate, and I have that relationship with a perfect Heavenly Father.

#3 – God showed Moses His workmanship, He was teaching Moses beyond what he already knew. Heavenly Father is willing to not only teach us, but to show us the process to a final result.

#4 – God teaches that we can become like the Only Begotten. God knows that we will make mistakes but also knows that a way is provided to become perfect, and a joint heir with Christ.

#5 – God tells Moses that He has a work for Moses. We were not placed on Earth by accident, but have a divine purpose and mission to fulfill.

#6 – God tells Moses that He sees all things in the present. A God who is all-knowing has the greatest eternal perspective. This characteristic also makes God trustworthy, knowing He has the perfect perspective.

#7 – After seeing Heavenly Father, Moses fell to the earth. Although Moses was exhausted from the vision, God only taught him what he was capable of learning and understand. Our Father doesn’t expect us to know or be ready for all knowledge. God is willing to help us learn at our own pace line upon line.

#8 – As Satan tried to tempt Moses, Moses was not fooled because God had prepared Moses to defend himself against Satan. God cannot prevent temptations, surely we must experience them while on Earth, but God will give us ways to conquer the Adversary. From this passage of scripture, the thing I learn most about Heavenly Father is His great love for His children.

God the Father is the Literal Father of Our Spirits

Like Moses, we are told that we are children of God the Father, and when we look, we too can see Jesus Christ’s works. We are told we have a work to do on this earth.I often wonder, but think I have kind of a clue about what that work might be.

Whenever I read the scriptures in the Pearl of Great Price, found in Moses chapter one, it makes me never want to listen to Satan again. I absolutely love the way it is demonstrated in these versus of scripture, and the way that Moses recognizes the lack of glory that Satan has by comparing to God the Father’s glory. Moses seems to reason and think. He pays attention to the situation in which he is. It makes me think about how I should do the same thing. I need to figure out who I should be listening to in those situations where a choice has to be made.

Moses, in this moment, really understood his relationship with God the Father. With God’s power, he could not be tempted by Satan. He had felt the glory of God upon him, and he calls Satan out on it. He tells Satan that he has no glory! If I were in Moses’ shoes, I would probably be scared. I imagine that Satan is a really scary and intimidating spirit, but Moses knew who he was, a son of God the Father. He knew his divine heritage and potential.

When I read this chapter, I always want to be better. It helps me grasp just a tiny bit, onto what my true character is. Moses inspires me to fight back against Satan and say “Who art thou? For behold, I am a daughter of God” (See Moses 1:13). It seems that the times I make the most mistakes, or feel the most unhappy in life, are when I forget that simple but profound principle.

I know that we are children of God the Father, and we have a work to do in this life just like Moses. When we are confronted with Satan, with temptation, or the chance to loose our virtue and divine character, we need to remember who we really are. I’m grateful for Moses’ example. He was tested, and he passed! And then he was rewarded! I want to follow his example.
